FOCUS ON MISSIONS

Ascending Leaders (Rev. Mike & Gina Johnson) helps churches, disciples, and leaders, flourish through coaching churches on discipleship and vitality; teaching on discipleship in congregations, and resourcing churches and individuals with effective discipleship materials.  For more information, check the website www.ascendingleaders.org.

Bonnie Bergman:  We are thankful to the Lord that Bonnie was able to return home after spending a time at Appledorn.  Please remember Bonnie in your prayers as she continues to work on strengthening her legs.

Dan & Beth DeJonge:  Please remember Dan’s brother, John, in your prayers.  John has Parkinson’s Disease and had surgery this past Friday to replace a leaking feeding tube.  We pray that all went well with that surgery.

Betty Kroll:  Please keep Betty in your prayers as she will soon meet with her oncologist to determine her chemotherapy and radiation regimen.

Del Machiela:  Please be in prayer for Del as recent tests have revealed a return of his cancer in his prostate and in his bones.  He will soon begin a daily chemotherapy regimen.  We pray that these treatments would be effective and that he would not experience great side effects.

Brian & Rachel Mast Family:  We give thanks that Luke (9 years old) and Tyler (7 years old) were both able to have their tonsils and adenoids removed this past Thursday and are doing well.  We pray for their continued recovery.

Tim & Ruth Meekhof:  Please keep Ruth’s dad, Harley, in your prayers as he has been hospitalized with an infection found in his back where he experienced some compression fractures earlier this year.  We pray that the IV antibiotics will prove to be effective for healing, and we pray for patience during this time apart.

Helaine Miedema:  We are thankful that Helaine had a successful hip replacement surgery and is doing well.  We pray for a good recovery and limited pain.

Earl Mokma:  Earl’s heart catherization this past week showed some blockages in his heart that will require bi-pass surgery, which is in the process of being scheduled.  We pray that Earl is able to have this surgery soon and that he will experience relief.

Unemployed / Under Employed / Business Owners:  Please be in prayer for those who have recently been made unemployed, had hours cut, or are business owners unable to employ their staff.  We pray for families that are experiencing financial strain and anxieties about the future.  We pray that we, as a church, may come around them in such times, and that our situation may improve where many would be able to return to work soon.

Main Avenue, ZeelandThe Deacons would like to encourage the congregation to continue supporting the causes/ministries that would have been receiving our offerings collected during our Worship Services.  We will provide a link where you can go and enter a donation for them online.  Some causes do not have a webpage.  Please contact your District Deacon with any questions.

New Elders & Deacons:  We give thanks to the Lord for His leading as Allyn Arendsen, Mark DuBois, and Mike Geerlings were selected to serve as our new Elders.  Eric DeJong, Brent Leegwater, and Mike VanAst were selected to serve as our new Deacons.  We are appreciative that Jim Staat Sr. has agreed to continue to serve as our Elder of Visitation.  We are grateful for the service of our retiring Elders – Gerry DeZwaan, Bill Lyzenga, and Earl Mokma; and our retiring Deacons – Jeff Klein, Jim Staat Jr., and Nick Venema.  Our installation Service is scheduled for Sunday, June 7.

North Street Leadership:  Though we have not been able to meet regularly as a church family for worship, the leadership of our Church has been continuing to meet through ZOOM video meetings.  Our Council, Elders, Deacons, and Executive committees have continued to care for our Church.  Additionally, they have been making plans for when we can come together once again for corporate worship.  They have sought the guidance from state and local officials as well as been in consultation with other churches in our area.  When the decision is made to open up again, they will be sending a letter outlining the new precautions, protocols, and expectations to ensure that worship is safe.  Until then, we covet your prayers for wisdom and patience.

Elders & Deacons Contacts:  The Elders and Deacons will be checking in on every family in our church each week not only to see how they are doing health wise, but also want to see if they need any assistance with picking up groceries or prescriptions, especially for those who are considered high-risk and immune compromised.  But we also want to check on folks to see how they are doing when it comes to potential benevolent issues.  We understand that many in this time are experiencing difficulties because of lay-offs and cut hours.  We want to ensure that we are doing all that we can to care for the church family in this time.  We also want to pray with you and for you, and so if you have any prayer concerns, please let us know.  Worship material, including on-line sermon and bulletin, will be available on our website each week.  If you would like a DVD or CD and bulletin sent to you, please contact our church office (772.6971) and we will mail them to you every Monday.

CHURCH FAMILY

John & Beth Apotheker:  Please keep John & Beth in your prayers after the recent death of Beth’s sister, Mary Patrick, who died this past Wednesday, May 6, after a battle with heart issues.  We also pray for Mary’s husband, Floyd, and their family.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, at Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford.

Allyn & Sue Arendsen:  We rejoice with Allyn & Sue as they welcomed their first grandson, Hudson James Arendsen, into the world this past week.  Hudson came into the world weighing 8lbs., 9oz., and was 20.5 inches long.  We are thankful that Rob & Kendra are doing well also and pray for them as they embark on this new journey of parenthood.

Dan & Beth DeJonge:  We give thanks to the Lord for the healthy birth of Dan & Beth’s grandson, Finley Ezra, the second son of Brian & Lea Dielman, who was born this past week.  We are thankful that Lea is doing well after a C-Section delivery.

Bonnie Bergman would like to say “Thank You for all the calls, prayers, and for the many cards that were read many times.  I’m very thankful for our church family!”
